A growing environmental problem – and a new opportunity Across Europe, thousands of wind turbine blades are waiting for a second chance. They are designed to withstand extreme weather conditions. When wind turbines reach the end of their life cycle – after 20–25 years – the blades end up stockpiled or buried in the ground. The problem? They are large, unwieldy and energy-intensive to break down. The solution? Reusing them in a new form – as noise barriers.
